In an effort to ensure continuity across airlines in terms of carry-on bags and their optimum sizes, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) worked closely with airlines to come up with some numbers. Ideally, carry-on bags should measure no larger than 21.5 inches by 13.5 inches by 7.5 inches in order to make the most efficient use of the storage space within the cabin.
